• Corporate Announcement

M.C. Dean was awarded a prime contract by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) to provide electrical and controls services as part of the Alexandria Storage & Maintenance Yard Automatic Train Control (ATC) system replacement. The project will span four years, coming to a close in January 2023.

Metro’s 30-year-old train system will be replaced with a new, state-of-the-art ATC system that will vastly improve the functionality of the yard facility by distributing controls into local zones, limiting the impact of potential failures to a confined area instead of the entire yard.

The company is using a phased delivery approach to seamlessly integrate and upgrade new systems with little-to-no impact on the customer’s daily operations. By taking a phased approach, WMATA will be able to maintain an active yard while the upgrades are being implemented. Metro will be able to keep its existing standing operating procedures while maintaining uninterrupted service.
