A cross-functional team led by M.C. Dean’s Engineering & Construction (E&C) team hit a major milestone this month with the successful turnover of three buildings, totaling 135MW, for one of their largest mission critical customers. This marks one of three sites in the Richmond area where M.C. Dean is leveraging modular design and construction to deliver faster, safer, and higher quality results.

This mega data center campus serves as the network access point for sub-sea cables from the East Coast to three continents, with the customer leasing space for global enterprise customers’ IT and cloud operations. Once the third campus is complete, they will have delivered nearly 500MW for this customer – providing jobs and infrastructure improvements for the area.
“Our goal is to support this customer in being the lease provider of choice for their hyperscaler clients by offering speed to market, enhanced safety, and improved reliability,” said Christopher Edge, M.C. Dean director of operations.
M.C. Dean’s scope includes power, telecommunications, fire alarm systems, lighting, automation, and supporting infrastructure. Facilities Engineering, Operations & Maintenance (FEO&M) was recently awarded their first operations and maintenance contract for the tenant on this campus, with a team of 24 joining their onsite presence of more than 1,000 employees.
“We anticipate continued growth with this customer in central Virginia and in other regions,” said Edge. “Our teams here have worked hard to establish trust and meet deadlines. Our focus on safety, teamwork, and modular delivery have enabled our achievements and positioned us for the future.”
To date, M.C. Dean has delivered 235 complex modules, with 279 more being integrated over the next year. All modules were designed and manufactured offsite at their Modular Mission Critical™ facility in Ruther Glen, Virginia.
