M.C. Dean today announced the promotion of Aaron Schoemaker, CSP, to senior vice president and chief safety officer. In this role, Schoemaker will provide leadership and strategic integration of the company’s health and safety management system and operational risk management.

Schoemaker succeeds John Bennett, senior vice president of safety. Bennett will be moving to an emeritus advisor role, where he will direct special projects and provide guidance to the company’s health and safety management team.

Bennett joined M.C. Dean in 2009, leading safety through extensive growth and development. During his tenure at M.C. Dean, he established and led the company’s world-class operational risk management process, shifting the company from a compliance-based to an organizational culture-based process.

“John has made significant contributions to M.C. Dean’s culture. His leadership has been foundational to our systemic, proactive approach – and he also built a world-class safety organization,” said Bill Dean, M.C. Dean chief executive officer. “Aaron’s success developing our People in Mind organizational culture – reinforcing accountability, continuous improvement, and a top-to-bottom commitment to safety – makes him the ideal candidate to take us into the future. He is also a relied-upon expert for many of our largest commercial and government customers.”

Schoemaker has been with M.C. Dean for over 16 years, working through progressive leadership roles in health and safety. He most recently served as safety vice president for Engineering and Construction, leading the safety strategy for construction and modular delivery. In addition to being a certified safety professional, Schoemaker is a respected voice and member of various industry forums, including the American Society of Safety Professionals, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, and the Construction Safety Research Alliance.

Schoemaker graduated from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, and Environmental Applied Sciences, and is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he received his Master of Engineering in Advanced Safety Engineering and Management.
