The M.C. Dean Foundation committed $75,000 to the Children’s Educational Development (CED) Society for 2027, continuing more than two decades of support for education, medical care, and career opportunities for children and young women in India and the Himalayan region.
During an Oct. 19 visit with M.C. Dean CEO Bill Dean, CED founder and chairperson Lama Tenzin discussed the organization’s progress and the experiences of young people who have benefited from its programs.
Tenzin was joined by Chewang Dolma Gurung and Passang Lhamu Gurung, two women who benefited from CED’s programs and now contribute to its work. “Seeing the young people CED has supported grow into leaders and hearing their stories firsthand is why this commitment matters to us,” said Bill Dean.
Chewang grew up in Upper Dolpa, a remote region of Nepal, and joined CED in 2013. Through the organization, she received educational support and access to resources that helped her pursue new opportunities. She now participates in CED’s “Sound of Soul” music recording program.
Passang earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and law from Siddhartha Law College and a master’s degree in law from Chandigarh University, specializing in constitutional law. She now oversees financial management and legal matters at CED, drawing on the education she pursued with the organization’s support.
“M.C. Dean’s continued support has helped create opportunities, inspire hope, and build a brighter future for Himalayan children,” said Tenzin.
Tenzin also outlined plans to begin producing sanitary pads ahead of International Women’s Day in March 2027 as part of CED’s Pink Pad Project. The organization plans to distribute the products to women in remote Himalayan villages to improve access to female hygiene supplies and support women’s health and dignity.
