• Certifications, In the News

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Central Records Complex recently achieved the Guiding Principles Compliance (GPC) certification. This facility also achieved the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold, and Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) Silver standard, becoming the first project to receive certifications from all three sustainability-focused programs according to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The Green Building Initiative (GBI) awards GPC certification to buildings that meet the guiding principles for federal construction and modernization projects:

  • Employ integrated design principles
  • Optimize energy performance
  • Protect and conserve water
  • Enhance the indoor environment
  • Reduce the environmental impact of materials
  • Assess and consider building resilience

Video: First Robotic Storage and Retrieval Warehouse Completed

The General Services Administration (GSA) Mid-Atlantic Region completed construction of the facility, which includes the first robotic storage and retrieval warehouse in a GSA building project.

As the electrical engineer of record, M.C. Dean designed and constructed electrical, telecommunications, automation, electronic security, and life safety systems for the 250,000+ square foot facility while delivering on our core principles of design excellence:

Durability and Sustainability
The Central Records Complex utilizes a highly efficient lighting layout and fixture selection, reducing energy use by at least 30 percent. For areas where daylight harvesting is required, ceiling-mounted photosensors and dimming ballasts continuously monitor and maintain lighting at programmed levels, enhancing overall energy savings throughout the workday.

Utility and Function
M.C. Dean’s design maximizes reliability, as all rooms containing electrical distribution equipment are designed with logical layouts, optimizing equipment operations and maintenance, to support 24×7 availability. The layouts also provide clearances to minimize hazards to technicians performing installation and repair work.

Beauty and Form
M.C. Dean’s lighting design compliments and accentuates critical, high-volume spaces within the facility to provide a more pleasant working environment for occupants.
