M.C. Dean employees Chris McLean, PE, director of mission critical solutions, John Bennett, vice president of safety, Richard George, CSP, CHST, director of safety, and Andrew Watt, safety professional, presented at the Critical Facilities Summit on Safety in the Age of Hyperscale Construction.

The presenters offered insights into how advances in modular construction, new software and technologies, and design innovations can contribute to a safer, more efficient construction atmosphere.

“On massive data center campuses, it is not uncommon to have hundreds of laborers per trade working simultaneously under pressure for expedited delivery. This high-stress environment inevitably leads to greater chances for mistakes and workplace incidents,” said Chris McLean.

As part of the session, M.C. Dean’s team led attendees through a real-time Operational Risk Management exercise to demonstrate the benefits of an organized focus on safety.

“For critical environments, we recommend kicking off each day with a review of safety and security. It is important to ensure that subcontractors and personnel have appropriate training to identify the hierarchy of control and approaches for incident prevention,” said John Bennett.

The Critical Facilities Summit is an annual event focused on the design, construction, and management of mission critical facilities. The summit welcomes facilities managers, engineers, and design-build professionals. This year’s summit took place in Dallas, Texas from September 23 to 25.
