M.C. Dean Inc. Design Engineer Co-op Program

Job Description:
This position is an entry level position where the incumbent will gain valuable knowledge of our overall design program.

The student is responsible for:
  • Learning the symbols and codes of the industry, including how to design electrical and related systems and prepare design documents for basic electrical & telecommunications distribution systems.
  • Learning the theory of overall security system design, security system operations, and component parts.
  • Assisting in design documentation (30-100% design submittals).
  • Coordinating work with all M.C. Dean Divisions, outside contractors, and vendors.
  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work in order to meet deadlines.
  • Turning in a capstone project at the end of the term which will display what he/she has learned over the course of the co-op.
Qualifications:
  • Must pass a background investigation and a drug test.
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Interest in the field of electrical engineering.
    *Prior experience in a related field and/or CAD preferred but not required.
Requirements:
  • An Associates Degree in Science or completion of at least two years toward a BSEE or BSEET.
  • Attention to detail in completing work tasks.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Managing one's own time in order to meet deadlines.
  • Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Lotus Notes.
    *AutoCAD is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and night shifts.
  • Mature, professional, and courteous demeanor.
Work Terms
  • Fall Semester- August to December
  • Spring Semester- January 15 to May 11
  • Summer Sessions- May 14 to August 17
    *Terms are flexible on a case by case basis
