More than 40 M.C. Dean, Inc. employees arrived at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Georgetown on Saturday August 18 ready to perform electrical and other repairs to the building in preparation for the 2007-2008 school year. The company volunteered its employees in support of Mayor Adrian Fenty’s “Buff and Scrub” program and also donated lights and electrical materials to the school. The “Buff and Scrub” Program is part of Mayor Fenty’s effort to make repairs at all 141 schools in the District this summer. Schools in the “Buff and Scrub” program require repairs including electrical, lighting, plumbing, heating and cooling, painting, and concrete resurfacing.
At Ellington, the hallways of the school needed lighting improvements, as did the ballet room on the school’s lower level. The ballet room ceiling is approximately 20 feet high, which presented a challenge for lighting and equipment replacement.
M.C. Dean, Inc. erected scaffolding in this room, which was donated by Theros Rentals.

M.C. Dean, Inc. CIM Automation Systems Division employees Jeff Frasier, Ray Bennett, Jim Sturgess, Jim Oppy and Dan Baxley donated their time and engineering talents to design and install a “Dancing Christmas Tree” for the Children's Art Network.
The Children's Art Network is a non-profit organization that provides a variety of arts and cultural programs to over 6,000 students in elementary schools in the Shenandoah Valley. Instructors from the Network are invited to elementary schools, and teach the students about other cultures and times through art, music, and group activities.
The unveiling of the Dancing Christmas Tree is a community event which is held annually in Gypsy Hill Park, in Staunton, Virginia.
Children's Art Network Executive Director Dorothy Baxley said, "Without the help of M.C. Dean, Inc. and CIM Automation, we could not have provided such a wonderful display that illustrates the power of integrating automation with art. You can feel this tree dance, and I think there is music playing in the heads of those who see this display….it is truly magical."
The “Dancing Christmas Tree" consisted of 15 strings of lights and a lighted star connected to a computer. The lights were programmed to make the tree lights appear to dance as they flashed on and off.
